Guest Edit: The Sakais
Nagi Sakai is known around the world for his fashion photography. His work has appeared in publications such as Vogue Spain, Vogue Ukraine, Porter Magazine, GQ style, and Love Want (to name a few!). He is someone I admire, and have been lucky enough to collaborate with over the years. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Natasha through Nagi, and she is equally creative -- a Singer/Songwriter -- and an undeniably HOT MAMA. Together, they have built a stunning space, and an earth shakingly adorable family. I'm grateful to them for sharing their house with me, and Siteligne.
The Sakais are masters of the cool clash -- combining elements that might ordinarily seem incongruent, and mixing them in a way that creates unexpected harmony. They do this by combining heirloom pieces, steeped in meaning and history, with clean minimalist lines. Natasha’s grandmother's gilt mirror sits between two modern sconces. Vintage decorative lamps flank their geometric sofa. And my favorite part of their house is a sort of shrine… a collage of objects off to one side of the loft -- an artful collection of meaningful relics from Egypt, where Nagi was raised, Japan, where he was born, and other keepsakes from Nagi and Natasha's life together. The result of their edit is a sprawling Williamsburg loft that is calm with restraint and warm with heritage.
It seemed fitting to ask them to tackle mirrors, as they use them so thoughtfully in their home, and in a way that particularly represents their talent for creating the perfect juxtaposition.
